Poughkeepsie attorney suspended, could face disbarment

A Poughkeepsie attorney has been suspended from practicing law after he failed to refund fees of clients who ceased their cases with his firm, totaling more than $32,000, according to documents from a state appeals court. Michael R. Varble was found guilty of "professional misconduct immediately threatening the public interest" because he didn’t comply with demands from the Grievance Committee for the state’s 9th Judicial District, according to court documents. He was suspended July 9. If Varble fails to respond or appear for further investigatory or disciplinary proceedings within six months of the decision date, then the court can disbar him without notice, according to documents.
